Tutoring for SF Students from Under-served Families
Urban Angels is launching one amazing program to support children and their families in their quest for a better life. The Summer Reading Tutoring Program for San Francisco’s elementary students will strengthen our most under-served families.
Early age literacy is critical for a student’s long-term academic and social success. Studies show that 74% of third graders who read poorly still struggle in ninth grade, and third-grade reading scores can predict a student’s likelihood to graduate high school.
"Our new tutoring program is more than just an educational initiative; it's a commitment to our community's future. We are excited to see how improved literacy will transform the lives of these children, giving them the confidence and tools to break the cycle of poverty and achieve their dreams,” says Nelson Barry, founder of Urban Angels SF.
UASF’s Impact Since 2015 - 8,000 children received educational support; 40,000 bags of clothing were given out; 49,000 hot meals were provided; 4 tons of groceries were distributed. A network of donors and volunteers continues to make this possible.
Children, parents, and community advocates will gather to celebrate the start of this program, which is part of Urban Angel’s commitment to children in San Francisco. Join us!
