“Muchas Gracias en verdad selo agradesco de corazón”
Thanks to your donations, José, Alma, and their two young children have been helped!
José was robbed at knifepoint on his way home from work for his $4K cash monthly salary and more leaving his family with two young children facing immediate eviction. Thanks to you and our Urban Angels SF community:
1) the family will stay in their home
2) José has replaced his electric scooter, cell phone, Bluetooth speaker, clipper card, and backpack.
3) José, Alma, and their two young children are safe and so grateful for the support of the Urban Angels SF community.
“As the founder of Urban Angels SF, I am so deeply moved by the support of our community to rally around this hardworking, kind family at a time of great need. This shows me how much the Urban Angels SF community comes together and cares for one another and our San Francisco neighbors who are most at-risk. On behalf of Jose and Alma, and the men, women and children supported by Urban Angels SF — thank you.” - Nelson Barry III

José’s Story
José*, a 33 year old husband and father of two young children, was attacked and robbed on his way home from his construction job 10 days ago (August 15). He was on his electric scooter going to his apartment in the San Francisco Tenderloin.
José’s wife, Alma*, has been a long time volunteer for Urban Angeles SF. For all of 2022 and 2023, twice weekly she donates time to get clothing donations ready and to hand them out to homeless people and others living below the poverty level here in San Francisco.
Four thugs surrounded José, put a knife to his throat and he believed he was about to be killed. They took everything; his money, electric scooter, cell phone, clipper card, bluetooth speaker and backpack. Although José was not physically injured, he was afraid for his life and incredibly traumatized.
José had just been paid his monthly pay ($4,000). He is paid under-the-table so he gets paid in cash. This is very common among migrant workers who work for employers who seek to avoid paying payroll taxes and the other costs associated with having employees. Now he is unable to pay his rent that is due on September 1st. José and his family are facing eviction in less than a week.
You have covered his out-of-pocket losses; his pay ($4,000), electric scooter ($1,200), cell phone ($300), blue tooth speaker ($100), clipper card ($40) and his backpack ($30). In total Jose’s losses amount to $5,670.
Thank you, so much, to everyone who has helped this incredibly nice and hard-working family.
*José and Alma have asked for us to not use their real names or photos because of concerns that they may be further victimized.
